IAA 2018: Eberspaecher presents new connectivity concept for special-purpose vehicles

4 September 2018

– Optimized operating processes thanks to networked vehicle components

– Connected functions for fleet managers and drivers in a single app

– High-performance batteries for independent power supply

Esslingen, 4 September 2018Constant readiness, this is an important feature for special-purpose vehicles. In this context, it helps to have a networked system that can be used to check the fill and charge state and to operate components before departure. Drivers and fleet managers see relevant functions on an user interface. At IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018, Eberspaecher will be presenting the concept for an open platform, which will be demonstrated using a test and laboratory vehicle that networks on-board components and makes them operable via just one app.

“Data-based services will play an increasingly important role in tomorrow’s mobility. With our air-conditioning solutions, we are already experts for networked systems. We now want to use these skills for new connectivity concepts,” explains Dr Joerg Schernikau, COO Climate Control Systems. For Eberspaecher, as a thermal management specialist, it makes sense that connectivity in the vehicle begins with connecting stationary air-conditioning systems and pre-heaters. It is also planned to integrate further elements –even from third-party suppliers – into the new Eberspaecher platform in the future. In addition, the goal is to integrate existing connectivity solutions from other manufacturers into the open platform without basically having to develop new applications or make significant modifications to existing ones. The open structure is intended to facilitate the integration of components and save time for body manufacturers and OEMs.

Everything at a glance in a single app
Fleet managers and drivers benefit from the fact that important information about the vehicle will be available in the future through the Eberspaecher platform and that they will have access to a common database. This optimizes the planning of working days and vehicle deployment. Fleet managers see everything at a glance and are able to call up important functions and the state of vehicle components. Thanks to the app, drivers also have an immediate overview when commencing work and know whether their vehicle is ready for respective use: Is the additional battery fully charged and has the water tank of the mobile hand washbasin been filled? In addition, they can operate components integrated into the system with just a few clicks before departure.

Full power with Eberspaecher battery modules
Electrification in vehicles is increasing. From power tools to measuring devices, there are more and more technical instruments installed in special-purpose vehicles that require electricity. This increases the need for electrical power. The scalable battery modules from Eberspaecher provide an independent power supply for the workplace. They enable low-emission applications in urban areas. The modular design of the high-performance battery allows individual adjustments to the respective power consumption in the vehicle. Since the devices in service vehicles often have different levels of power consumption to those in test and laboratory vehicles.

Networked test and laboratory vehicle at IAA Commercial Vehicles
At IAA Commercial Vehicles, visitors to the booth can discover how the concept platform works in a test and laboratory vehicle. The app controls products available in Eberspaecher’s extensive portfolio – from electrical heaters and stationary air-conditioning systems to scalable battery modules – as well as third-party components. When drivers are on the road all day, they need a working environment that is both reliable and comfortable. Utilizing the concept presented, Eberspaecher will showcase solutions that allow specialist staff to focus fully on their work – knowing their vehicle is always ready to go and everything can be viewed at a glance.
