Eberspaecher builds new exhaust technology plant in Portugal

25 September 2016

Newly won orders are necessitating the continued expansion of the European production capacity of the Exhaust Technology Division. The Eberspaecher group of companies is therefore investing in an additional component plant for exhaust technology in Tondela, Portugal.

“This represents the logical expansion of our European exhaust technology production network. At the same time we are bringing our products closer to customers on the Iberian Peninsula”, said Dr. Thomas Waldhier, COO of the Eberspaecher Exhaust Technology Division, explaining the decision.

A production and logistics building is currently being built on 11.5 hectares of land in the Zona Industrial do Lagedo (Municipality of Tondela) industrial area. In future, the new site will supply the plants of European car makers in Spain, Portugal and Northern Morocco with hot end and cold end components for diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles. This includes exhaust systems as well as gasoline particulate filters and catalytic converters. Production is expected to start in the third quarter of 2017. By the end of next year Eberspaecher will create around 120 jobs at the plant. An expansion up to 500 co-workers and an annual production capacity of 2.5 million exhaust components is scheduled by 2020.
