Esslingen / Renningen, 8 March 2017 − Comfortably heated or pleasantly cooled − an optimal temperature in the bus makes the ride pleasant for passengers and improves the performance of bus drivers. Thermo management specialist Eberspaecher Suetrak, will present tailor-made solutions at bus2bus in Berlin on 25 and 26 April (stand 421, hall 21). Their newest innovation is the E-Control, a proprietary control platform which enables the central regulation of all heating and cooling components in the vehicle.
With the new E-Control platform, the thermo management specialists offer a flexible solution for application in buses of all drive types. The heart is the control unit, the E-Control Box. Its modular system structure enables the central control of all climate components, such as roof-mounted and driver's cab air-conditioning systems, compressor, convector, heater, and aisle heating. Customized pre-programming can be defined for different drive types, thanks to the control strategy. A big plus is that the E-Control Box can be used for existing control units of customers.
Operation is via the modern and clearly structured E-Control Interface. Large, clear buttons enable the bus driver to intuitively operate all essential functions while driving. For an optimum climate in the passenger compartment as well as the driver's seat, frequently used functions, such as the dryer function, can be quickly selected via the one touch button. Moisture is removed from the windshield within a very short time, thus providing a clear view.
Environmentally friendly cooling with CO2
In addition, the thermo management experts provide a look at the new platform for the future CO2 air-conditioning generation. "We are currently developing and testing an environmentally-friendly CO2 air-conditioning system for the European bus market at our development center in Renningen. With this system, we are taking new environmentally-friendly approaches which fulfil all future coolant requirements“, explains Oliver Wels, General Manager, Eberspaecher Suetrak. The AC 230 roof-mounted air-conditioning system is used as the basis. Natural CO2 coolant is far more environmentally-friendly than the current chemical coolants R134a and R1234yf. Other advantages: CO2 is inflammable, does not generate waste products and is also available worldwide at a low cost. Furthermore, CO2 heating pumps can be operated more efficiently in lower temperatures and, in winter, fuel savings can be achieved with integrated cooling/heating components. Especially in the milder European summers, the power consumption and resulting increase in fuel consumption of the CO2 air-conditioning systems in diesel buses, for example, is even lower than that of an R134a series air-conditioning system. The roof-mounted CO2 air-conditioning systems will be used mainly in urban buses and coaches.
