Optimum climate on-board buses and coaches: New E-Control platform from Eberspaecher Suetrak

16 February 2017

- Centralized control of all thermal management components

- Intuitive E-Control user interface

- Flexible connection to customer-specific systems

- Applications for buses and coaches with any drive type

Esslingen / Renningen, 16 February 2017 – Eberspaecher Suetrak, the specialist in bus air-conditioning systems, has developed E-Control, a state-of-the-art platform providing centralized control of all the thermal management components on-board a bus. E-Control's highly compact design means it can be installed quickly and easily in the vehicle. It can be retrofitted at any time.

At the heart of the system is the control unit, the E-Control Box. The modular system structure enables centralized control of all air-conditioning components, including the roof-mounted and driver's seat air-conditioners, the compressor, convector, heater, and aisle heating. The software can additionally be configured to meet specific customer requirements. Telemetry and vehicle data (diagnostics) can be integrated and read out via the CAN bus interface. Settings for the various drive types can be defined based on the control strategy. This permits customer-specific pre-programming of the temperature settings. The power demand of electric buses can also be easily optimized in this way. E-Control can be pre-programmed for customer-specific applications including solo, double-decker or articulated buses and coaches, and is available for 12 VDC and 24 VDC vehicle electric systems. As a major plus-point, the E-Control Box can be used with customers' existing operating units. Retrofitted thermal management components can also be connected to the control platform.

Intuitive operator control – perfect air-conditioning

The platform is operated via the clearly structured E-Control Interface. Large, clearly labeled buttons enable the driver to quickly and intuitively control all the key functions. A click of the AUTO button automatically adapts the temperature presetting and blower speed to the vehicle's climatic requirements. To maintain an optimal climate in the passenger compartment and at the driver's seat, bus drivers can make use of the direct-select button to select frequently used functions such as the dryer. It rapidly demists the windscreen, so ensuring clear visibility. The SMOG button can be used – among other functions – to quickly close the fresh air vents when driving through a tunnel, so as to prevent polluted outside air from penetrating into the vehicle's interior.
